Harrisburg Senators News Release
Today's Game... The Senators and Akron Aeros wrap up their four-game series this afternoon. The Senators are sending RHP Beltran Perez to the mound for his first start of the season. The Senators have won four in a row while Akron has last five straight. The Sens are looking for their first five-game winning streak of the season today, and a four-game sweep of the Akron Aeros.
Last Time Out... The Senators swept last night's doubleheader with a pair of one-run wins over the Akron Aeros. In game one the Senators took a 4-0 lead in the second inning on a pair of two-run home runs, one by Josh Whitesell and the other by Rich Lane. Akron eventually closed the game to 5-4, but Roy Corcoran retired the final five batters saving the win for Justin Echols and in the process earning his 12th save of the season.
I n game two, the Senators rallied three times to win 7-6 in eight innings. After falling behind 1-0 in the first, the Senators tied the game in the bottom of the first on an RBI double off the bat of Kory Casto.
Eventually they fell behind 4-2 before taking the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a three-run home-run off the bat of Melvin Dorta. Akron then tied the game in the seventh and took a 6-5 lead with a run in the top of the eighth, but the Senators weren't done yet. Dorta drew a one-out walk, went to second on a ground out, and Frank Diaz, mired in a slump, hit a 1-0 pitch over the left field wall for a walk-off win and a sweep of the doubleheader.
Walk Off's... One day after Alex Escobar's walk off single, the Senators had their fourth walk-off win of the season in game two last night. The two run home run by Diaz was the second walk-off home run of the season for the Senators. They came from beind on opening night, scoring a run in the bottom of the ninth and then winning the game in the 10th on a sacrifice fly by Salomon Manriquez. On Tuesday, April 11th the Senators came from behind to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, and then after giving a run in the 10th, Manriquez homered to tie the game and then Dan DeMent hit a two-run home run to win the game.
Home Sweet Home... With the doubleheader sweep last night the Senators improved to 18-5 at home. The Sens have the best home record in the league and the fourth best home record in all of the minor leagues. They have won 6 of 7 at home after losing two straight to Erie.
Double Dips... After not winning a game last year in any of the four doubleheader's they participated in, the Senators are now 4-2 this season. Last night's doubleheader sweep of Akron was their first doubleheader sweep since August 5, 2004 when they took two from Reading.
