Portland Sea Dogs News Release
One way to break out of an offensive slump; score 11 runs in one inning, which the Sea Dogs did on Sunday afternoon, thrashing the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 12-5 at Hadlock Field. David Murphy had a career day, establishing a franchise record with 5 RBI's in one inning. The Spring, Texas native, finished the day 5-for-5 with three doubles and a triple.
Trailing 5-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, Portland had eight straight hits off Brian Wolfe, James Bullard, and Tracy Thorpe to take a 7-5 lead. Keoni De Renne's two-run single snapped a 5-5 tie. Murphy unloaded a bases loaded triple to clear the bases and Chad Spann knocked in a run to round out the scoring. The Sea Dogs finished with 10 hits in the inning and sent 14 men to the plate. The franchise record for most runs in one frame happened on August 29, 2003 when Portland scored 14 against New Haven.
Murphy also set a franchise mark with four extra-base hits in one game. Chris Dubin became the second player in franchise history to have three extra-base hits, which he accomplished last June 29 vs. Altoona.
Victor Ramos (2-1) closed out the game for the Sea Dogs, working two scoreless innings. Bullard worked no part of an inning, suffering the loss for the Fisher Cats, surrendering two runs on two hits.
Portland was 8-for-10 with runners in scoring position during the eighth inning and finished the series, 13-for-32 (.406). The Sea Dogs took two of three from New Hampshire, their first series win since sweeping the New Britain Rock Cats on May 5-8.
Notes...Chad Spann extended his hitting streak to six games...Alberto Concepcion was the only starter for Portland without a hit...Murphy picked up his first Double-A 5-hit game...Jose Vaquedano gets the start on Monday night in Binghamton.
