Hardy Tosses One Hitter to Lead Hens Past Braves

August 19, 2013 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release

Blaine Hardy stifled the Braves' bats all night and tossed a one hitter to lead the Hens passed Gwinnett, 6-0, Monday night at Fifth Third Field.

The 26-year-old southpaw was virtually untouchable, and ultimately was one hit away from pitching a perfect game. Hardy did not walk a single batter in the performance, and aside from allowing the one hit in the third inning, no other batter reached base.

Nick Castellanos got things going for the Hens in the first frame by smacking a homer over the left field fence. The two-run shot, which was Castellanos' 15th round tripper of the season, gave Toledo an early 2-0 lead.

It was an advantage Toledo would not relinquish, but the Hens did build on it with consistent offensive outputs throughout the ballgame. The Mud Hens scored once in the second, twice in the fourth and once more in the seventh to build toward a 6-0 final. In all, nine Hens' batters tallied at least one hit and five players turned in a multi-hit performance, including Hernan Perez who extended his hit streak to seven games.

The Hens will hope from a similarly dominant performance from Kyle Lobstein, who will start tomorrow night in Toledo's fourth and final game in the series with Gwinnett.
