
Hardy named All-Star

Idaho Falls Chukars News Release
Chukars pitcher Rowdy Hardy has been named to the 2006 Pioneer League Postseason All-Star team in a vote of the league's managers. Hardy was signed as a free agent this season after a stellar collegiate career at Austin Peay State University in Tennessee. So far in his debut season, he is 5-3 with a 3.17 ERA, which currently ranks 6th in the league. He has pitched 71 innings and has struck out 46 batters while walking only 4. He was one of 5 pitchers selected to the squad. He is expected to make his next start Friday (tomorrow) night at McDermott Field against Orem.
Infielders Marc Maddox and Kurt Mertins each received honorable mention. Maddox, a 9th round draft pick this year out of Southern Miss, is batting .324 with 3 HR, 31 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. He also has 19 doubles. Mertins was a 13th round selection in this year's draft from the College of the Desert. He is currently hitting a team best .333 with 0 HR, 21 RBIs and 20 stolen bases.
