Harbourcats News and Notes, First 500 Free Tonight
July 28, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Victoria HabourCats News Release
VICTORIA, B.C. - Perhaps the only thing better in summer than baseball, is FREE BASEBALL.
The HarbourCats and Columbia Fuels have unveiled the FEEL THE HEAT promotion for tonight that includes Columbia Fuels providing the first 500 people at the gate with free admission, wanting to help more Victoria people/families be able to experience HarbourCats baseball. The lineup for this will take place at the ticket booth area on Caledonia.
"This is another great community-focused effort by Columbia Fuels, and we loved the idea of them buying up 500 tickets to give away to the community - particularly those who have not had the chance to come to a game yet, give it a first-go," said Jim Swanson, GM of the HarbourCats.
"We work hard to be inclusive with all sectors, from our direct neighbourhood to all of Vancouver Island, from young to old, and all walks of life in between. We have a diverse fan base, and we were proud to paint our bases rainbow on the weekend to recognize the diversity in our society. This is a great city we live in, a great mix of cultures and ideas. Columbia Fuels was the perfect partner for this venture."
The 50-50 draw tonight will benefit the Victoria Eagles high performance committee. Games in this series against the Cowlitz Black Bears, with promotions:
TONIGHT, 6:35pm (gates at 5:30pm) - Columbia Fuels, Feel The Heat, free admission for first 500 lined up at the ticket gate on Caledonia
WEDNESDAY, 6:35pm (gates at 5:30pm) - Westshore U-Lock Mini-Storage Game Night, lots of prizes and giveaways all night.
THURSDAY, 1:05pm (gates at noon) - Black Press Carrier businessperson's gameday, play hooky from work, or better yet, bring your work to the park!
FIREWORKS!!!
After this series, our last homestand includes a BC Day fireworks show, on August 3, then Harvey's Birthday on August 4, and a special recognition night for one of our players on Fan Appreciation Night on August 5 - with the Yakima Valley Pippins making their first-ever appearance in Victoria.
ROSTER MOVES FOR PLAYOFF PUSH
The HarbourCats are shuffling the deck on players for the stretch run, with the team sitting 2.5 games back of the wild card playoff spot with 12 games to go. It is unlikely the rained-out game from Sunday against the Walla Walla Sweets will be replayed, meaning winning percentage will determine the final playoff spot.
The scheduled starting pitchers for the Cowlitz series (Tuesday/Wednesday nights, Thursday 1pm) are Dominic Topoozian, Austin Dondanville and Matt Blais.
Released - RHP Jonathan Buckley (arm issues), LHP Josh Mitchell (innings limit) and RHP Alex Rogers (innings limit).
Signed - RHP Calvin Christiansen (Glendale College), RHP Brett Irvine (Victoria Mariners-PBL), RHP Jason Willow (Victoria Mariners-PBL), RHP Nick Seginowich (Victoria Mariners-PBL), RHP Shawn Anderson (Burnaby Collegiate summer program).
Christianson and Anderson will join the team for the final three series, while Irvine, Willow and Seginowich are in uniform for Tuesday's game.
***For those asking, should the HarbourCats get into the playoffs, the possible home date would be Tuesday, August 11 - but that is still to be determined.
