Walla Walla Sweets News Release
Bremerton, Wa- The Sweets took game one 2-0 over the Kitsap BlueJackets behind a no-hitter by Kyle Molnar. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Sweets.
Molnar was fantastic in his nine innings of work. He walked three and had two errors behind him, but he stayed efficient. He through 124 pitches, 72 of which were for strikes. In the ninth inning, he walked the lead-off hitter, but retired the next three in order to complete history. He even finished the game with a flare by striking out the final hitter he faced for his eighth punch-out.
It was the first no-hitter in the West Coast League since Spenser Watkins did it on July 26th, 2013 in Kitsap. Two years and one day later, Molnar added his name to the exclusive list by completing one of his own in the same ballpark.
The offense was supplied by Nick Halamandaris, who hit a two-run home run in the forth inning that scored Myles Hager. That was more than enough for Molnar, who only allowed three runners to get as far as second base all night and only let one to third base.
The BlueJackets (17-26) and the Sweets (21-21) will match-up again tomorrow as the Sweets look for the series win. That game can be heard on ESPN Walla Walla.
