Victoria HabourCats News Release
WALLA WALLA, WA - The Victoria HarbourCats dropped their 2016 West Coast League opener by a score of 2-1 to the Walla Walla Sweets at Borleske Stadium on Friday night.
The HarbourCats handed the ball to James Kannenberg (Univ. of San Francisco) for the Opening Day start. The right-hander minimized the damage in a rocky first inning, allowing just one run on two hits, two walks and a hit batter.
The HarbourCats equalized in the top of the second when a double off the bat of catcher Hayden Jaco (Vernon College) drove in center fielder Cody Snider (Chico State) who was aboard on the first of his two hits in the game
Kannenberg settled after the first inning, working to a final line of two earned runs on three hits in six innings pitched. The Sweets pushed across the eventual winning run in the fifth inning thanks to two Kannenberg walks and a pair of errors behind him.
HarbourCats bats were held down the rest of the way by Sweets pitching, their best opportunity coming in the top of the sixth when they drew four walks but were unable to score.
The HarbourCats and Sweets play game two of their three game series Saturday night at Borleske Stadium in Walla Walla, first pitch is 7:05.
