HarbourCats Drafted, Team Teams with Baseball BC on Girls Event June 13

VICTORIA, B.C. - The Victoria HarbourCats are pleased to announce they have teamed with Baseball BC to offer a grassroots festival and BC Selects female provincial identification camp at Sports Traders Diamond at RAP, taking place this Saturday (June 13).
This is open for ALL girls, not just elite players.
Community Relations liaison Mira Laurence will be working with Scott MacKenzie of Baseball BC to put on the skills and ID event, which runs from 9:30am to 12:30pm at the home of the HarbourCats.
All players who take part will be given a Baseball BC t-shirt and water bottle, and tickets to a future HarbourCats game. Registration is $20 for all participants, and full information is available here http://www.baseball.bc.ca/whatnew/VictoriaLetter.pdf.
"This event is intended for skill development for girls under the age of 12, and for those 12 and over, it's to look for prospects for Provincial Select Teams," said MacKenzie.
"We are pleased to be able to take this camp offering to Victoria, and extremely happy to work with the HarbourCats, who have established themselves so firmly now on Vancouver Island."
This event is another way the HarbourCats are involved with the local baseball and softball communities. Along with working to help Greater Victoria Baseball, the Mariners organization, and all other youth baseball and softball associations, the HarbourCats host skills clinics and work with the Toronto Blue Jays on the Honda Super Camps series, which arrives in July .
"Girls are growing up as baseball fans, and the female involvement in the game over the last 15 years has really improved and become impressive," said Laurence. "We're pleased to work with Baseball BC on this initiative, and we hope to see a lot of girls out, showing what they can do or learning more of the basic skills."
ROSTER NEWS
The HarbourCats have released Victoria infielder Morgan Varley - a planned move, since he had planned to spend his summer in Ecuador on a humanitarian mission. "Morgan was a big help to us in getting our season started, and he's a tremendous young man," said General Manager Jim Swanson.
The HarbourCats welcome the following players to the roster now - IF Brandon Feldman (Otero JC), OF Austin Guibor (Fresno State), IF Torin Goldstein (Fresno State), C Nick Meyer (Cal Poly), C Zach Bonneau (Washington). Joining the team in Bend, Oregon, on Friday, will be RHP Cameron Schneider from Cal Poly.
"These additions will get us the depth you need to play just about every day for the next 10 weeks," said Swanson. "Feldman, Guibor, and Goldstein are all available today, while the others will be available for the final game of this Kitsap series. Adding Schneider in Bend will help give our pitching staff another dimension, a power arm who is 6-7/225."
DRAFT NEWS
Gabe Clark, Nathan Lukes and Logan Lombana, all players from the 2014 season, have been claimed in this week's MLB draft, and now face a decision on whether to sign or return to school. Clark and Lombana have been offered spots on with the HarbourCats this summer, and the team awaits their decision. Lukes is expected to sign and leave Sacramento State, where he set many records. Robbie Nesovic, Will Dennis and Brett Helton, who also had past ties to the team as roster players or signed players who were unable to attend, were also selected. Nesovic, from UC-Santa Barbara, played for the HarbourCats in 2013.
KITSAP SERIES
The HarbourCats close out their series with the visiting Kitsap BlueJackets with tonight's game (Wednesday) a 6:35pm start, with gates opening at 5:30. Preston Ryan gets the call on the mound - and it's INVESTORS GROUP FAMILY NIGHT, with donations being collected for the Mustard Seed, non-perishable food items.
On Thursday, it's an AFTERNOON GAME! Yes, a 1pm start at Sports Traders Diamond at RAP, the third game of the series, and it's SCHOOL SPIRIT DAY sponsored by Independent Sports News, with a lot of students coming from Sir James Douglas Elementary School and the Lambrick Park Baseball Academy. A perfect day for a field trip!
The HarbourCats hit the road after that, for games Friday-Saturday-Sunday in Bend, Oregon, then in Longview, Washington on Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday for games against the division-rival Cowlitz Black Bears.
The HarbourCats are then home to the Black Bears on Friday, June 19, the first game of a three-game set that concludes with the first FATHER'S DAY home game in team history, on Sunday, June 21. That game is sponsored by Outlooks for Men.
HARBOURCATS HOME GAME TICKETS ON SALE, ON-LINE
HarbourCats fans can get to the front of the line now by going on-line to purchase tickets for the 2015 season - that includes Father's Day (June 21) and special Fireworks Games, slated for June 30, and August 3.
