Falcons Errors Lead to Loss
June 10, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Kelowna Falcons News Release
The Kelowna Falcons welcomed a large crowd to Elks Stadium on Tuesday night thanks to Telus and Cisco, but couldn't turn that magic into a win, as they fell 11-2 to the Yakima Valley Pippins.
After Colin Basran's opening pitch, Alex Webb from the University of British Columbia toed the rubber to get the home portion of the Falcons West Coast League season underway. He would strike out the side in the first while giving up a hit.
The Pippins would jump on Webb in the 2nd inning, as Mitch Skaggs lead off with a homerun. Then with the bases loaded, the Pippins would take advantage of an error by 3rd baseman Vinny Esposito, scoring 4 more times in the inning, including once off a wild pitch.
The Falcons responded in the bottom half, as Josh Egan scored Andre Jackson on a ground out after Jackson tripled with 1 out.
In the 3rd, the Falcons scored again as Ben Gamba kept his hitting and RBI streaks alive driving in Brandon Grimsley.
Webb would surrender another run in the 4th on a misplayed ball in left field allowed Tyler Friis to get to 3rd base on his single. He would score thanks to a Sacrifice Fly from Layne Croney.
Jimmy Doyle would throw 3 innings of scoreless relief for the Falcons, giving up only 1 hit. He also made an excellent play when Skaggs tried a drag bunt in the 5th.
The Pippins would capitalize again in the 8th inning off the Falcons bullpen, who issued four walks and hit one batter, while uncorking two wild pitches and allowing two passed balls. Yakima would score four in the inning for a 10-2 lead. They would add another in the 9th.
The Falcons committed seven errors in the ball game.
The lone bright spot offensively for Kelowna was Gamba, who went 3-5 with an RBI.
The Falcons and Pippins are back at it Wednesday at Elks Stadium as Jaramy Jacobs goes for the Falcons, and Josh Nashed starts for Yakima.
