Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

Pelicans' right-hander Tommy Hanson has been promoted to Mississippi (AA). He is expected to start for the Braves on Tuesday, May 13th, against the Montgomery Biscuits at home. Hanson was slated to start for Myrtle Beach in Sunday's series finale with the Wilmington Blue Rocks at 1:35 PM. RHP Chris Vines (1-0, 0.53) will take Hanson's spot in the rotation and make his first start of the season.

Hanson dominated the Carolina League over the first month of the season in his seven starts. The 21-year old posted a record of 3-1, with an ERA of 0.90 (2nd - CL). His 49 strikeouts were also second in the Carolina League. He was awarded the league's Pitcher of the Week award in each of the first two weeks of the season. He opened the season with an 11-inning scoreless streak, and after giving up an unearned run on April 13th, turned in another 17 1/3 scoreless innings before permitting his first earned run of the season after 28 1/3 innings.

Hanson will be making his Double-A debut with Mississippi in his third professional season. He was originally drafted by the Braves in the 22nd round of the 2006 draft. The Braves have announced a coinciding move, which leaves the Pelicans one active player short of full roster, with 24 active and four on the Disabled List.

An updated Pelicans roster will be released prior to the Pelicans series finale with Wilmington this afternoon.
