Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws (14-22) relinquished a lead in the ninth inning, but used a bases loaded walk in the bottom half of the frame to take down the Delmarva Shorebirds (16-19), 4-3, Monday night at FirstEnergy Park. The win marks the fourth in a row for Lakewood, a season-high, and the fifth win over the last six games.
The BlueClaws held a 3-0 lead entering the seventh inning, but the Shorebirds continued to chip away and plated a run in the each of the final three innings to tie the game at 3-3.
Mitch Walding hit a one out single to right to get the wheels moving for Lakewood in the ninth. Carlos Tocci followed with a double to left to put two in scoring position for Angelo Mora. Mora was intentionally walked, before Zach Taylor drew the walk to plate Walding and win the game.
The story of the night was Lakewood right-handed starter Nick Hanson, who made his third start of the season. Hanson entered the night without yielding a run over his first 11 innings in the starting role, and that continued until the seventh on Monday.
Hanson took the mound and retired the side in order in the first. The righty did it again in the second, and in the third, and the fourth. The trend continued until a one out double in the sixth by Adrian Marin broke up Hanson's bid at perfection.
In the seventh, Tucker Nathans led off the inning with a triple, and scored on an RBI groundout, but that was all the offense Hanson would allow against him. The seven innings marks the longest start by a BlueClaws pitcher this year and the run in the seventh snaps the 17-scoreless innings streak for Hanson.
Chace Numata bumped up to the two spot in the lineup for just the second time this season and it immediately paid off as he hit a double in his first plate appearance. After he moved to third, Numata scored on Brian Pointer's RBI double to put the 'Claws up 1-0.
Pointer moved to third on a ground out to the right side by Art Charles, and scored on a wild pitch from Delmarva's Brady Wager. Wager settled in to complete the first and pitch a scoreless second.
The BlueClaws struck for their third run in the third inning, without the benefit of a hit. Zach Taylor led off the frame with a walk, moved to second on Roman Quinn's sacrifice bunt.
With two down, Pointer put a ball in play to first, but Nik Balog the first baseman threw high to the covering pitcher, and the ball got away which allowed Taylor to score.

The BlueClaws and Shorebirds resume their three-game series 6:35 pm Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Park. LHP Lino Martinez (0-1, 6.23) is slated to get the start for Lakewood and will be opposed by RHP Mark Blackmar (0-2, 3.94) for Delmarva.
