Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 13, 2013) -- Kannapolis battled into extra innings for the first time this season, but Lexington's Adrian Morales ended the affair with a home run in the bottom of the 11th inning as the Legends edged the Intimidators, 2-1 (F/11), on Monday at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
Morales stepped to the plate with one out in the home half of the 11th, 0-3 on the night and 1-22 on the season before his game-winning blast, his first of the year.
Intimidators starter Jake Cose posted another strong outing, striking out a season-high nine batters over 7.0 innings in a no decision. He allowed one unearned run on three hits with one walk along the way. Braulio Ortiz picked up where the Kannapolis starter left off, working 3.0 scoreless relief innings of 1-hit ball, striking out five, walking one to pitch Kannapolis through the 10th.
Lexington's Ali Williams (2-1) worked a 1-2-3 top of the 11th, striking out two batters, to earn the win. He followed relievers Cory Hall and Mark Peterson, who combined for 5.0 scoreless frames of no- hit ball. Legends starter Bryan Brickhouse allowed a run on six hits over 5.0 innings.
The Legends broke a scoreless tie in the fourth when Michael Antonio doubled to left field, cashing Terrance Gore, who reached on an error to lead off the inning.
The Intimidators responded in the following frame. Micah Johnson drew a leadoff walk and stole second and third base before scoring on a Jason Coats groundout. Johnson stole three bases on the night, pushing his Minor League-lead to 35 swiped bags on the season.
Kannapolis reliever Storm Throne (0-1) took the loss, striking out the first batter he faced before giving up Morales' blast.
The Intimidators and Legends take the field for Game 2 of the 3-game series on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. as Jefferson Olacio toes the rubber for the Intimidators. Kannapolis returns to CMC-NorthEast Stadium on Thursday to open a 4-game series against the Hagerstown Suns. For ticket information, call the F&M Bank Box Office or visit IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
