Hand Returns to Big Leagues

ZEBULON, N.C. - The Florida Marlins have announced a pair of transactions that affects their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight's game against the Carolina Mudcats at Five County Stadium.

Left-handed starting pitcher Brad Hand has been recalled from the Suns roster to the major league Florida Marlins. Hand with the Suns this season went 9-3 with a 3.81 ERA in 15 starts. This will be Hand's third stint in the majors with the Marlins this season, where he is 1-3 with a 2.77 ERA in five starts.

In a corresponding move, right-handed relief pitcher Sandy Rosario has been transferred from the Triple-A New Orleans Zephyrs roster to Jacksonville. Rosario made one relief appearance with the Zephyrs, pitching a scoreless inning and two thirds on July 25 when he picked up a save. Rosario with the Suns is 2-2 with a 3.98 ERA in 39 appearances while he has collected a Southern League-best 20 saves.

The Suns roster now stands at 24.

The Suns and Mudcats will play the fourth game of the six-game series at Five County Stadium on Thursday night. Right-handed pitcher Omar Poveda (6-5, 4.40 ERA) will pitch for Jacksonville against Carolina's right-hander Brandon Hynick (1-2, 4.26 ERA). Thursday's game will start at 7:15 p.m. ET, and fans can listen to the contest beginning at 7:00 p.m. with the U.F. & Shands Pregame Show on Jacksonville's WFXJ AM 930 the Fox and www.jaxsuns.com.
