Hammond Returns To Ottawa As Coste Gets The Call

OTTAWA - Another familiar face is coming back to the Lynx lineup. IF Joey Hammond was transferred to Ottawa from Double-A Reading, replacing Chris Coste, who was called up by the parent Phillies today.

Hammond, 29, played in Ottawa in both 2003 and 2004, combining for a .257 average, one home run and 62 runs batted in over 193 games with the Lynx. Hammond has been a force with Reading this season, batting .342 with 17 runs batted in over 32 games with the R-Phils. He has a .272 career batting average over nine seasons in the Minor Leagues.

Coste, 34, hit .233 in 26 games with the Lynx this season. Coste made headlines last season after making his Major League debut at the age of 33. He had an outstanding Spring Training in 2006 and got the call from Philadelphia May 21st. Presented with his first chance at Major League pitching, Coste hit .328 with 7 HR and 32 RBI in 65 games. Coste is a career .287 hitter over 12 Minor League seasons. He was added to the Lynx roster April 9th.
