
Hammond handcuffs the Cardinals

The Palm Beach Cardinals were puzzled all night versus Brevard County left hander Steve Hammond, as they suffered a 3-1 loss in front of 1,470 fans at Roger Dean Stadium.
Hammond (1-0) pitched effortlessly through six innings before running into trouble in the seventh. He relinquished three hits during his 6 1/3 innings of work, walking four batters and striking out four.
Palm Beach starter Mitchell Boggs (0-2) matched Hammond pitch-for-pitch until the fifth inning. The Cardinals surrendered three runs in the inning, two being earned, with Charlie Fermaint delivering a double to left field, scoring two runs.
With the win, Brevard County pushes their record to 10-1, staying a top the Florida State League Eastern Division. Palm Beach drops to 6-5 and trail the Manatees by four games.
Tomorrow night it's a battle of right-handers with Mark Michael going for the Cardinals against Mark Rogers. Game time is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
