St. Lucie Mets News Release
JUPITER Fla. - Jupiter's Dillon Peters carved up the St. Lucie Mets in a 2-0 Hammerheads win on Wednesday at Roger Dean Stadium.
Peters shut down the Mets through six innings. He allowed just three hits, two of which were infield singles. The other was a double from Kevin Taylor that left fielder Dexter Kjerstad misplayed.
Andy Beltre struck out two in a perfect seventh. Esmerling De La Rosa tossed the eighth and ninth to collect his eighth save.
With the victory, the Hammerheads jumped over the Mets by half a game for first place in the FSL South Division.
Both Jupiter runs came in the fourth inning against Josh Prevost. John Norwood and Taylor Ard started the frame with singles after Prevost fell behind in the counts. Kjerstad then dropped down a sac bunt to move runners into scoring position.
Tomas Nido gave up a passed ball that let Norwood score to make it 1-0. Ard advanced to third on the passed ball and scored on Brad Haynal's sac fly to put Jupiter up 2-0.
Prevost settled down and went six innings. He struck out four and did not walk a batter for the second straight start.
The Mets had two chances to score. They had runners and second and third with one out in the second inning but Jhoan Urena popped up and John Mora struck out.
In the ninth, Kevin Taylor was at third and Michael Katz was at second as the tying run with two outs. Urena popped out again to end the game.
Taylor went 2 for 3 with a walk. He had half of the Mets hits. The other two were singles by Patrick Biondi and Michael Katz.
Reliever Domingo Tapia tossed two shutout innings with four strikeouts.
Next Up: The Mets (56-49, 21-17) and Hammerheads (53-54, 22-17) finish their two-game series on Thursday at Roger Dean Stadium. First pitch is 6:30 p.m. The Mets can reclaim first place with a win.
