Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release

HIDALGO, TEXAS - The NBA D-League Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that George "The Iceman" Gervin will be at the Vipers game against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Dodge Arena

Gervin will be sitting courtside during the game and will be available to interact with fans and media. He will also be a guest on the halftime show of the radio broadcast on ESPN 1240 AM.

"It is my pleasure to be a part of the communities that are supporting NBA D-League basketball in the Rio Grande Valley," Gervin said.

Gervin played 10 seasons in the NBA and another four in the American Basketball Association before it merged with the NBA. He was a member of the San Antonio Spurs from 1974-85.

He led the NBA in scoring four times, including during three consecutive seasons from the 1977-78 season through the 1979-80 season. At the time, Gervin had the most scoring titles of any guard in NBA history.

Gervin holds the Spurs record for total points (23,602).

For his career, the Hall-of-Famer averaged 26.2 points per game in the NBA while shooting 51.1% from the field in 791 games. The nine-time NBA All-Star blocked 670 shots, allowing him to retire with the second highest total among NBA guards in history.
