Cape Breton Eagles News Release
NOTES FROM THE GAME - The Eagles struck first but a five goal second period paced Halifax to an 8-2 victory on Tuesday at Centre 200 as the Mooseheads took a 3-0 series lead over Cape Breton.
- Alex Doucet started the Halifax offense with a natural hat trick in the second period, while also adding two assists before game's end. It was a four-point night for Josh Lawrence while Markus Vidicek scored twice.
- Jacob Newcombe scored twice for the Eagles while Cam Squires added two assists.
Both teams had ample opportunity to open the game up but the goalies shone early on. Newcombe's breakthrough came with 89 seconds to play in the opening period- a loose puck came to him on a rebound on the power play and the home team took a 1-0 lead to the dressing room after 20 minutes.
Halifax cashed in on their first power play of the night early in the second period, as Doucet deflected a Jordan Dumais shot by Nicolas Ruccia. Doucet's next goal came at even strength, and after the halfway mark of the middle stanza he finished a passing play at the side of the net to give Halifax a 3-1 edge. Halifax added to the lead with two late goals in the second frame- a Dumais power play marker followed by Attilio Biasca moving up the left wing, cutting to the front of the goal and putting it over Ruccia.
The visitors kept control of the game in the third period as Vidicek cashed in on a cross crease pass early to make it a 6-1 game. Newcombe's second of the night slashed the deficit before Vidicek and Josh Lawrence completed the scoring for the visitors.
The Eagles will look to stave off elimination tomorrow as they host the Mooseheads in game four at the Nest tomorrow night. Puck drop is at 7 PM. Tickets can be purchased at https://bit.ly/438DZUi .
