Lexington Legends News Release
Former University of Louisville star Jeff Gardner had two hits and scored two runs for Hagerstown as the Suns defeated the Lexington Legends 5-2 Thursday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
The Suns scored a run in the first inning on a single by Matt Reistetter, a walk to Jose Marmolejos and a base hit by Matthew Page.
In the fourth inning, the first three Hagerstown hitters walked, loading the bases. A sacrifice fly by Wilman Rodriguez scored one run. Austin Davidson's single plated another, and a third run scored when Davidson's hit got by center fielder Brandon Downes for an error, giving the Suns a 4-0 lead.
Hagerstown scored its final run in the sixth when Gardner doubled, moved to third on a single by Rodriguez and came home on a ground out by Osvaldo Abreu.
The Legends scored both their runs in the bottom of the ninth. DonAndre Clark led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After Brian Bien drew a walk, Chad Johnson singled, scoring Clark. Anderson Miller's two-out single scored Bien with the Legends' second run.
Former Legend Kevin Perez (1-3) got the win. He relieved starter Jefry Rodriguez in the fifth and worked three scoreless innings.
Legends starter Yunior Marte (4-5) took the loss.
Game two of the five-game series will be played Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
