Hagerstown Suns News Release

After a strong bottom of the sixth inning, and a 3-0 lead, the Suns surrendered five runs in the final two innings to the Lakewood BlueClaws in Wednesday's 5-3 loss.

The Suns opened the scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning as Justin Bloxom doubled to right field scoring Jeff Kobernus and Francisco Soriano. JP Ramirez followed with a single to center field driving in Bloxom and giving the Suns a 3-0 lead.

Josh Smoker started for the Suns and pitched well, with three strikeouts over five shutout innings. Unfortunately, his good work went to waste as Lakewood rallied late against the Suns bullpen.

Taylor Jordan (0-1) entered the game in the top of the sixth for Hagerstown and threw well for his first two innings. However in the eighth, Jordan surrendered a one out walk to Adam Buschini and double to Leandro Castro putting runners at second and third. Jonathan Singleton hit a sacrifice fly to right field, driving in Buschini and bringing the BlueClaws within two runs.

After a scoreless bottom of the eighth, with Sebastian Valle on second after a walk and Anthony Hewitt at first after a single, Jiwan James singled to right driving in Valle. Taylor Jordan then hit Jonathan Villar with a pitch loading the bases for Lakewood with only one out.

Wanel Vasquez replaced Jordan and immediately surrendered a bases-clearing triple to Buschini putting Lakewood ahead 5-3.

The Suns were retired in order in the bottom of the ninth by closer Jordan Ellis.

Taylor took the loss giving up five runs in three and one third innings work. Siulman Lebron (1-2) got the win for Lakewood with two scoreless innings and Ellis got his third save of the season in the ninth.

The Suns and BlueClaws with play the third of four game series on Thursday starting at 7:05. Gates open at Municipal Stadium for the "Thirsty Thursday" at 6:05 p.m.
