Haerther League's Best Once Again

For the second time in three weeks, Winnipeg Goldeyes first baseman Casey Haerther has been named the American Association's Pointstreak Player of the Week.

Haerther, 26, went 22-for-35 at the plate last week for an astounding .629 batting average in eight games. When four walks are factored in, he had a .667 on-base percentage. He also added power with five doubles, three home runs and 11 RBI during the week. Seven of his eight games where multi-hit outings.

On the season, Haerther leads the American Association with a .425 batting average, which is a 66-point lead for the batting title. Haerther also has the league lead in hits (77), total bases (115), doubles (20), extra-base hits (26) and slugging percentage (.635). He has six home runs and 31 RBI in 46 games this season.

This marks the third time in four weeks and fourth time this season a member of the Goldeyes has been named the player of the week. Catcher Luis Alen won the award on June 8 and shortstop Tyler Kuhn won the first player of the week award this season.

The American Association-leading Goldeyes begin an 11-game, 10-day homestand Tuesday night at Shaw Park with the first of three games against the Sioux City Explorers. The Gary SouthShore RailCats and St. Paul Saints, who the Goldeyes lead in the North Division by 9 ½ games, are the other opponents for the homestand.
