Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
MONTREAL, QC - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today the signing of defenceman Mathieu Carle to a three-year contract. As per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Carle, who has been practicing with the Bulldogs, was officially assigned to Hamilton and is now eligible to play in the 2007 Calder Cup Playoffs.
Carle, 19, played 63 games with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL in 2006-07. He registered 70 points (16-54-70), 79 penalty minutes and a plus-11 rating in the regular season. In the 2007 playoffs, he collected 16 points (6-10-16) in 16 games with the Huskies.
A native of Gatineau, Quebec, Carle finished third in scoring among QMJHL defencemen (70 points), and second in assists (54). He had a 14-game point streak (5-20-25), from September 29 to November 8, the longest among QMJHL defensemen and second longest among Canadian Hockey League rearguards. Carle was also named the QMJHL Defensive Player of the Week on two occasions (October 30-November 5; December 11-December 17).
In four full seasons in the QMJHL, the 6-foot, 207-pound defenceman appeared in 258 regular season games with Acadie-Bathurst and Rouyn-Noranda, recording 195 points (49-146-195), and 311 penalty minutes.
