Benson Signed to AHL Contract for 2007-08

Peoria, Ill. (May 8, 2007) - Peoria Rivermen General Manager of Hockey Operations Kevin McDonald announced today that right wing Hans Benson has been signed to an American Hockey League (AHL) contract for the 2007-08 season.

The 23-year-old Benson, currently in the National Conference Finals with the defending ECHL Kelly Cup Champion Alaska Aces, skated in 15 games for the Rivermen over the last month and a half the regular season, posting 54 penalty minutes (PIM) and six fighting majors. The third-year professional has one assist and 50 PIM in nine playoff games for the Aces, who opened the National Conference Finals against the Idaho Steelheads on Monday. The 6-foot, 210-pound native of Menlo Park, California, registered five points (2g, 3a) and 205 PIM in 33 games for the Aces this past season.

Benson spent his first two seasons (2004-2006) with the Central Hockey League's Laredo Bucks and was a member of last year's Bucks team that claimed the CHL Ray Miron President's Cup Championship. With Laredo, he collected 27 points (8g, 19a) and 429 PIM in 113 regular-season games, and in the playoffs last season, he notched five points (3g, 2a) in 16 games with 47 PIM.
