May 8, 2016 - Texas League (TL1)
Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS - Ronald Guzman broke a 2-2 tie with a solo home run in the fourth inning, and the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, knocked off the Midland RockHounds, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
Guzman's homer landed in the Choctaw Lazy River construction site in deep right field. It was his fifth homer of the season and second in the past four games. He finished 2-for-3 Sunday with two runs scored and extended his on-base streak to 16 games.
After the long ball put Frisco (22-7) in front, 3-2, both teams went scoreless for the remaining five innings. Juan Grullon was the first man out of the bullpen for the Riders after starter Victor Payano (4-0) worked five innings and allowed two runs on five hits. Grullon retired all nine batters he faced in three frames of work. Grullon has pitched three innings in each of his last three relief appearances.
Ryne Slack increased his hitless streak to 11 2/3 innings after working around a two-out walk in the ninth to earn his second save. Slack has not allowed a run yet this season in 14 1/3 innings pitched.
Midland (18-12) jumped ahead early with two runs in the second inning, but starting pitcher Dylan Covey exited the game due to an apparent injury prior to the beginning of the second. The Riders quickly tied the game with four consecutive base hits in a row against reliever Trey Cochran-Gill (1-1). Preston Beck drove in both runs with his bases-loaded single into center field to tie the game at 2-2.
The Riders continue their four-game series against the Midland RockHounds, the second-place team in the Texas League South division, Monday at 7:05 p.m. Chris Jensen (2-2, 5.56 ERA) is scheduled to make the start for the RockHounds, while Frisco has yet to name a starter. Live coverage can be seen on MiLB.tv and heard on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, on the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show coverage begins at 6:30 p.m.
