Gus Young Loaned to Mavericks

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The Missouri Mavericks announced today that defenseman Gus Young has been loaned to the team by the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves.

Young, 25, returns to the Mavericks after a six-game call up to Chicago. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound defenseman began the season with the Mavericks and posted one assist in four games. Young was called up to Chicago after the Mavericks won their home opener on October 22, 2-1 over the Indy Fuel. He went on to record an assist in six games with the Wovles.

Prior to this season Young played two years in the AHL for the San Jose Sharks' affiliates. His rookie season in 2014-15 was spent with the Worcester Sharks where he totaled 15 points (5g, 10a) and a +14 rating in 64 games. Along with the Sharks' affiliate, Young moved for the 2015-16 season to San Jose to play for the Barracuda in the AHL and set career highs in points (16), assists (13) and penalty minutes (57).

From 2010 to 2014 Young skated with the Yale Bulldogs and helped the school win its first NCAA championship in 2013. He was taken in the 7th round (#184 overall) by the Colorado Avalance in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
