Fayetteville Guard News Release

Fayetteville, NC --- The Fayetteville Guard will take-on the Odessa Rough Necks for their home opener April 2 at The Crown Coliseum.

Fayetteville put up a good fight last weekend against The River City Rage with a tie at the half time, but had to settle for a 46-43 lose to the Saint Louis team; making them 1-0 for their inaugural season.

Sean Withy-Allen, Guard Quarterback from Hawaii University, scored the first touchdown of the game, setting the pace for a high scoring quick paced game. Fayetteville carried a nine-point lead into the fourth quarter, but the River City Rage rallied for the win.

Fayetteville drove to the Rage 15-yard line with 20 seconds left, but a bad snap led to a fumble Withy-Allen and River City recovered.

The game was tied 21-21 at halftime but Fayetteville controlled the third quarter and took a 37-28 lead into the fourth.

Despite the late fumble, Withy-Allen had a big game for Fayetteville. He threw four touchdown passes and ran for two scores. The scoring passes went to receivers: Tuati Wooden, Michael Cosey, Brandon McDowell and Mitch Galloway.

Fayetteville scored the first 10 points of the second half to open up its biggest lead of the game at 31-21. The Guard still led 37-31 with about 10 minutes left when Withy-Allen threw an interception at his own 3-yard line. River City scored on the next play and took the lead for good.

The Roughnecks, which opened its season with a victory against Beaumont, is 2-0 for the 2005 season; they beat out the Lincoln Capitals last weekend 48-30. The Roughnecks will host its home opener April 23 against the Miami Morays at the Ector County Coliseum.
