Bakersfield Blitz News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Blitz of the af2 will host one of their most important nights of the season this Saturday at 7:00pm at Centennial Garden. The Blitz (5-3) and Hawaiian Islanders (5-3) are both tied atop the West Division in the National Conference. The winner of Saturday's game will sit alone in first place.
The Blitz are "calling their shot" on Saturday night, by guaranteeing victory. If the Blitz don't beat the Islanders, everyone in attendance will receive a free ticket to the Blitz next home game on June 19th or subsequent home games until the Blitz do win. In addition, the first 2,000 fans 12 and under will receive a free Blitz Beach Towel, courtesy of KUZZ 107.9 and Bright House Networks. Saturday is also Bright House Networks Family Night. All subscribers can purchase terrace level tickets for just $5 by presenting the coupon found in their monthly cable bill to the box office.
This weekend's game is the reward for those children who participated in the Blitz Summer Excellence Program. Those students who achieved outstanding attendance levels in school received a complimentary terrace level ticket to the game. Also ladies, be sure to stop by the Mary Kay Cosmetics table behind section 110 on Saturday to enter in a contest to win a date with a Blitz player.
Saturday also represents a big night in af2 history. The league will surpass the five million mark in attendance and will celebrate the milestone in every building that will host an af2 game this weekend, including Bakersfield. The Blitz will randomly select a fan on Saturday night as the "Five Millionth Fan" who will win a variety of prizes. They will receive two season tickets for the remainder of the 2004 season as well as for the 2005 season, and a commemorative "5 Millionth Fan" af2 jersey. They will also participate in one of the on-field contests on Saturday night and be featured on the league's website at www.af2.com. The af2 is in its fifth year of operation.
There will be other on field activities besides the football on Saturday night. Prior to the game, Richard Mauser, a local soldier in the Army's 4th Infantry Unit home on leave from Iraq, will participate in the coin toss. Also, there will be a cheerleading performance by the Turning Point Academy of Dance before the game, and several karate schools will participate in a karate demonstration on the field during the halftime show.
