Kalamazoo Growlers News Release

The Kalamazoo Growlers WILL be playing their 4th of July weekend double headers. The question becomes whether those games will be played at Homer Stryker Field or 20 minutes down the road at C.O. Brown Stadium.

Early Saturday morning, the Kalamazoo River flooded Homer Stryker Field leaving the ballpark almost 2 feet under water. Starting Monday, Kalamazoo's Parks and Recreation Department and the Growlers began pumping water out of the stadium to get Homer Stryker Field ready for the 4th of July weekend games.

This water is being pumped around the clock with an additional pump arriving Tuesday. With Mother Nature's cooperation and crews working through the week, hosting games at Homer Stryker Field remains a possibility.

"We're playing." says John Bollinger, the team's Assistant General Manager. "This weekend's games are too important to our community and our organization. We're doing everything possible to host the games here at Homer Stryker Field and if the field isn't ready, we have another great venue in place right down the road."

If Homer Stryker Field is deemed unplayable, the Growlers will host their 4th of July weekend games at CO Brown Stadium in Battle Creek, MI. CO Brown Stadium is the home field for Growlers sister team the Battle Creek Bombers, who will be on the road. The timeline is uncertain when any announcement will be made official but the Growlers will have a more definitive answer later in the week.

Friday and Saturday's games are double headers, with the first game starting at 5pm. Each game will last 7 innings with a 30 minute break in-between.

Friday, July 3 is Chris Sales bobblehead night presented by Edward Rose and Sons and a Wal-Mart-Sam's Club Flat Screen TV Giveaway! Saturday, July 4 is the Growlers Red, White, and BOOM Night presented by the Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International Airport starring the Inflatamaniacs entertainment act, special patriotic jerseys that will be auctioned off at the end of the game, and the largest fireworks show in the area!

"An event like this hurts, no doubt," says Bollinger, "but we will overcome this and have been blown away by the community support. People have come out to volunteer, asked how they can help; I've told them the best thing they can do is purchase a ticket and let us do what we do best - entertain."
