July 8, 2014 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Kalamazoo Growlers News Release

Green Bay, Wisc- The Growlers began their six game road trip and longest of their inaugural 2014 season with a Tuesday night game in Green Bay as they took on the Bullfrogs in the first of a two game series. The two games with Green Bay would give Kalamazoo a chance to pass the Bullfrogs in the South Division standings.

Grayson Granger (Kalamazoo Valley Community College) made his first start of the year for the Growlers and showed some promise, but four doubles plus a solo home run off Dean Long (Emporia State) chased the left handed starter and the Growlers bats only managed seven singles off Green Bay pitching in a 9-3 defeat.

Nick Yarnall (University of Pittsburgh) contributed two hits in the Growlers effort as Kalamazoo fell to 1-6 in the second half and 14-28 overall. Kalamazoo scored first as Karl Sorenson's sacrifice fly RBI provided the early lead, but Green Bay scored in four of the first five innings and never looked back in taking the first game. Brett Sunde (Western Michigan University) provided stellar play defensively for the Growlers as he threw out three potential Bullfrog stolen base attempts.

Green Bay moved to 20-22 and 3-4 in the second half with the win. The finale of the series commences Wednesday night with first pitch starting at 8:05pm (Central Time).
