Madison Mallards News Release

Wisconsin Rapids, WI - July 8, 2014. The Madison Mallards (5-3, 23-18) fell tonight in Wisconsin Rapids to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (3-3, 15-26) after being held to two runs on five hits.

The Mallards would score their first run in the sixth inning after shortstop Trace Tam Sing (Washington State) doubled to drive in right fielder Connor Marabell (Jacksonville), who had reached on an error.

Tam Sing was one of two Mallards batters to record a hit against Rafters starter Domenic Mazza (UC-Santa Barbara), who held the Mallards to one run in seven innings of work, walking three while striking out seven.

Catcher Matt Thaiss (Virginia) would go deep in the ninth inning, hitting a solo shot to bring the Mallards deficit to four runs.

Rafters reliever Nolan Blackwood (Memphis) closed out the Mallards after Thaiss's home run, retiring three of the four batters he faced to end any threat of a Mallards comeback.

The Rafters scored four of their six runs in the seventh and eighth innings, highlighted by a two run home run by third baseman Keelin Rasch (Louisiana-Monroe) in the seventh.

Mallards starter Tyler Buffett (Oklahoma State) allowed two runs on eight hits, going 4.1 innings while striking out four Rafters in the loss.

The Mallards stay in Wisconsin Rapids tomorrow to continue their five game road trip against the Rafters at 7:05 pm. They play two more at Witter Field before returning to the "Duck Pond" on July 11th to face the Rafters at 7:05 pm.

Friday the 11th will feature a MIG Commercial Real Estate LEGO Building Giveaway. It is also Circus World Night with live circus entertainment and Remington Beard Night.
