Growlers Fall to Woodchucks

Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Kalamazoo Growlers were defeated on Friday night by the Wisconsin Woodchucks by the score of 2-0 at Homer Stryker Field in Kalamazoo, Mich. in front of 2,094 fans.

Danny Mokrzycki (St.Cloud State) got the start for the Growlers (8-12) and allowed just two runs off six hits over seven innings pitched. He also struck out one batter on the evening, while walking no Woodchucks (14-8) batter.

Kalamazoo did spray nine hits off Wisconsin's pitching, with Grant Van Putten (Calvin College), Justin Fletcher (Northern Illinois) and John Brodner (Wright State) each picking up two hits. Fletcher currently holds a nine-game hitting streak. Jesse Puscheck also walked twice for the Growlers as the designated hitter.

The Woodchucks picked up both of their runs in the top of the fifth inning, after a William Hairston (Frank Phillips) sacrifice fly plated one, and Connor Beck's (Texas Christian) triple brought in the second run.

The Growlers welcome the Kenosha Kingfish into Kalamazoo for games on Saturday and Sunday. It's Consumer Credit Union Super Saturday at the ballpark, and the Growlers will be giving away a brand new John Deere X300 Riding Lawn Mower presented by Steensma Lawn & Power Equipment. It will also be Scout Night, as well as a Scout Patch and Tishhouse Electric Thunderstix giveaway. First pitch is sent for 7:05 p.m.
