Kenosha Kingfish News Release

Kenosha, WI - The Kingfish finished their final series against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters exactly as they began their season: with a sweep. The Kingfish pulled ahead with a "5 spot" in the fifth to win the game 5-3 and sweep the two game set. The win extends their winning streak to five, allowing them to maintain second place in the South Division.

The Rafters struck first in the contest, plating one run in the second and two in the fourth to take the lead 3-0. They would be silenced for the remainder of the night however thanks to the Kingfish bullpen. Dillon Mazzoccoli took home the win, coming into the affair in the fifth and allowing just one hit while striking out two.

Rapids starter Jake Cage started off hot on the mound, giving up only one hit going into the fifth. But the resilient Kingfish were not to be discouraged, coming up big in the fifth inning. They scored five runs in the fifth inning to take the 5-3 lead and hand Cage his first loss of the season.

The fifth inning started with two fielding errors on the Rafters and a single from C Michael Adkins to load the bases with no outs. 3B Alex Borglin then hit a 2 RBI-single to push across SS Kyle Brooks and 2B Steven Sensley. Next up was lead-off hitter CF Taylor Douglas, who hit a double to drive in Adkins and tie things at 3. This resulted in hot 2B Chris Godinez, who has batted .455 since the midway point of the season, coming to the dish. The junior from Bradley lived up to his reputation, pushing across Sensley on a deep sac-fly. NWL All-Star LF Pat Porter kept things rolling as he blooped a single into short left to pick up his 56th RBI on the year.

The Kingfish next travel to Kalamazoo for the weekend and return to Kenosha on Monday, July 28th for a 7:05 p.m. start against the La Crosse Loggers. The night will feature the Chevrolet Lynch King Elvis LEGO Kit Giveaway.
