Kalamazoo, Mich - The Kalamazoo Growlers defeated the visiting La Crosse Loggers by a score of 7-4 in Northwoods League South Division action.
Ryan Smoyer (Notre Dame) made his final start of the season for the Growlers (16-19) and picked up his Northwoods League leading eighth win of the season. Smoyer went five innings and gave up 10 hits with three earned runs.
Smoyer concludes his impressive 2014 campaign with over 80 innings pitched 43 strikeouts and a 2.01 ERA as well as an All Star bid.
Run support was bolstered by Muncie, Indiana native Alex Maloney who went 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs. Justin Fletcher (Northern Illinois) also added to the attack, he went 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.
The Growlers head into the final series of the year against the defending Northwoods League Champion Madison Mallards on Saturday, August 9th. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
Super Saturday presented by Consumers Credit Union will be host to a number of great giveaways and promotions. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free Growlers jersey presented by Borgess Health. The next 500 fans will receive the final set of Growlers thunderstix courtesy of Tishhouse Electric.
