Alexandria Blue Anchors News Release

Alexandria Blue Anchor pitcher Jason Zgardowski has been picked up by the Philadelphia Phillies. Zgardowski is the second Anchor to enter the MLB this season after pitcher Onas Farfan was drafted by the Minnesota Twins back in June.

The junior out of Angelo State has started 12 games for the Anchors this season and has made one relief appearance that resulted in a save. This body of work included a total of 62 innings pitched, 33 strikeouts, a 2-7 record and a 3.77 earned run average.

The signing is coming less than a week removed from the Big League Dreams Showcase game in Madison, that game played a large role in Jason's signing.

"I came in, threw like 93-95. I felt pretty good about it. A day later, he (Phillies scout) gave me a call and asked if I was interested in joining the club." Said Jason

The hard throwing right-hander will now head down to Clearwater, Florida for rookie ball at the Phillies spring training facility.

This will also close the door on a great season with the Anchors, as he will depart on Saturday.
