
Grizzlies Win 6-2 to Sweep Weekend Series

The Utah Grizzlies go to 2-0 on the season as they score 3 power play goals to win 6-2 against the Rapid City Rush at Maverik Center on Saturday night.
Josh Winquist got the Grizzlies on the board as he scored on a power play, 4:44 into the game. Winquist has a first period goal in each of his first 2 games in Utah.
It stayed 1-0 heading into the 2nd period but the Grizzlies scored 2 goals in a 1:07 stretch as Kevin Davis scored 42 seconds into the 2nd frame on a slapshot near the blue line to make it a 2-0 game. Ryan Walters scored a minute 7 seconds later to make it a 3-0 game.
Rapid City scored on a power play 5:02 into the 2nd period as Steven Tarasuk got his first of the year. Utah make it a 4-1 game as Matt Berry deflected a Davis shot into the back of the net to make it a 4-2 game.
Davis ended the night with a Gordie Howe hat trick, scoring 1 goal, 2 assists and getting into a 3rd period fight.
Utah scored 2 power play goals in the 3rd period, as Caleb Herbert scored to make it a 5-2 game midway through the period. Herbert has scored 3 goals in his first 2 games in a Utah uniform. Matt Berry got his 2nd goal of the night to make it a 6-2 game at the 10:51 mark of the 3rd period.
Joe Cannata stopped 26 of 28 shots for the 2nd straight game in net for the Grizzlies as he goes to 2-0 on the season.
The Grizzlies outshot the Rush 36-28, including 15 Utah shots in the 3rd period. 12 different Grizzlies players had either a goal or an assist on the night.
Next weekend the Grizzlies head for the road for games on October 19th and 20th against the Idaho Steelheads at CenturyLink Arena. 7:00 pm face-offs on both nights.
Grizzlies notes: The game featured 4 fights. Teigan Zahn, Austin Carroll, Kevin Davis and Ryan Walters each dropped the gloves for Utah. Josh Winquist has 2 goals and 2 assists for Utah after 2 games. Caleb Herbert has 3 goals and 2 assists for Utah on the weekend series. Kevin Davis had 1 goal and 3 assists this weekend. Utah is 5 for 13 on the power play through 2 games this year.
Weird stat: Joe Cannata saved 26 of 28 shots in each of his 2 games on the weekend.
