Gateway Grizzlies News Release

For the second time in as many nights, the Grizzlies scored all their runs in the seventh inning. The Grizzlies scored five times in the seventh to take down the Mid-Missouri Mavericks 5-4 Friday night in front of 4,819 at GMC Stadium.

The Grizzlies are now 13-8 on the season. The Mavericks are 3-18.

The Grizzlies trailed 2-0 when Phil Warren lined his sixth home run of the season over the right field wall to make it 2-1. Greg Stevens walked and went to second on a Ryan Sullivan base hit. Wayne Astrauskas sacrificed the runners to second and third, before Daylon Monette came to the plate as a pinch hitter.

The Mavs were intentionally trying to walk Monette, when John Paul Glascock fired a wild pitch to the screen, allowing Stevens to walk in from third. Two batters later, Oscar Vargas came to the plate with two on and lined his first home run of the season into the right field lawn seats, putting the Grizzlies up for good 5-2.

The Mavs added a pair in the ninth on a two run home run from Nick Saunders.

Joe Dooley started and went seven innings allowing two runs on eight hits. He struck out seven. He is now 4-0 in five starts. Gene DeSalme earned the save retiting the final hitter.

The Grizzlies head to Windy City for a three game series with the ThunderBolts. The series begins Saturday with a 7:05 game.
