Gateway Grizzlies News Release

Washington, PA - The Gateway Grizzlies lost an early lead on Wednesday night at Wild Things Park, allowing all nine of the Washington Wild Things runs on 13 of their 16 hits in the final four innings in a 9-2 loss, evening the series at one game apiece.

After the game was scoreless in the first three innings, Trevor Achenbach led off the fourth inning with a double, and ended up scoring when Ian Bibiloni homered to left field, extending his hit streak to 10 games in a row since joining the Grizzlies and putting Gateway ahead 2-0.

Carson LaRue (3-4) held that lead until the bottom of the fifth, when a one-out single by Alex Alvarez snowballed into a three-run frame, with the next four batters of the inning also reaching on singles. Jared Mang tied the score with a two-run single, ending the Grizzlies' scoreless inning streak at 24 2/3, and Wagner Lagrange put Washington ahead to stay with a subsequent RBI hit at 3-2.

In the bottom of the seventh against Nick Kennedy, Washington would add on to their lead and put the game away, scoring four more runs to balloon the advantage to 7-2, with Ian Walters hitting a two-run homer to cap the frame with two outs. Another pair of runs came in to score in the eighth for the final margin, as the Grizzlies dropped the Wednesday night contest.

Gateway will look to win the series in the rubber game of the set on Thursday night, August 4, 2022, at 6:05 p.m. CT. Jason Rackers will make his first professional start for the Grizzlies on the mound.
