Rockland County, NY - David Vinsky had three hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs as the New York Boulders posted a 16-10 victory over the visiting Trois-Rivieres Aigles on Wednesday at Clover Stadium in Pomona.
The Boulders jumped in front with four runs in the second inning against Aigles' reliever Jose Vasquez, who was pressed into action after starter Kyle Thomas left after one frame with an injury. Tucker Nathans knocked in the first run with a double, while Max Smith made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly.
Vinsky then capped off the second inning explosion with a two-run home run, his 13th of the season.
Trois-Rivieres was kept off the scoreboard over the first four innings by New York starter Andy Hammond before touching up the righthander for three runs in the fifth - two coming on Juan Kelly's 10th homer of the year, which was followed by a solo blast by Carlos Martinez, his 16th of the season and second in as many days.
New York, though, responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and regained their four-run lead at 7-3. Chris Kwitzer drove in one run with a single and Ray Hernandez knocked in two with a double.
The Boulders then seized control with a four-run sixth inning - on just one hit, a bloop double by Kwitzer with the bases loaded. Two runs scored on the hit and two more crossed when Martinez, the Aigles' catcher, threw wildly to third base. The four runs gave New York an 11-3 advantage.
However, Trois-Rivieres made things interesting with a four-run seventh inning that included an RBI double by L.P. Pelletier, a run-scoring groundout from Kelly and a two-run double by Connor Panas that cut the Aigles' deficit to 11-7.
New York, though, answered with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to increase their lead to 14-7 - two runs coming on a Vinsky double and one when Giovanni Garbella was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The Aigles scored twice in the eighth, getting an RBI single from Martinez, while the second run scored when Steve Brown was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Nathans and Smith added solo home runs in the eighth - for Nathans, it was his ninth of the year, while it was Smith's 10 of the season.
Hammond got the win for New York, his fifth of the year against a pair of losses, while Vasquez took the loss, falling to 1-2 on the season.
