Grizzlies sign goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris

West Valley City, Utah - Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Colley announced today that the team has signed goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris to a contract for the 2009-2010 season.
Grumet-Morris, a 2002 draft pick of the Philadelphia Flyers, went 31-11-4 with four shutouts, a 2.55 goals-against-average and a .911 save percentage with the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones from 2006-2008. Overall, the Harvard University product is a combined 57-28-11 with a 2.44 goals-against-average and a .917 save percentage in four professional seasons combined in the ECHL, AHL and CHL. Grumet-Morris played for the Graz 99ers in Austria in 2008-2009; tallying five shutouts, a 2.63 goals-against-average and a .914 save percentage in 49 games.
"Dov comes in with a tremendous amount of experience and has always been a top goaltender at every level he has played," said Colley.
The 27-year-old had a stretch during the 2007-2008 season, in which he went 18-1-1 as part of the Cyclones' ECHL record 17-game winning streak. Overall in 07-08, Grumet Morris was 20-3-1 as Cincinnati went on to have the best record in the ECHL and captured the league's Kelly Cup Championship. During the 06-07 season, he ranked sixth in the AHL with four shutouts playing with Portland, Hamilton and Manitoba.
"I'm very excited, the Grizzlies have a great tradition in an excellent sports market," said Grumet-Morris. "The team's affiliation with the New York Islanders is exciting for any hockey player coming in."
Grumet-Morris becomes the second goaltender signed by the Grizzlies after last week's addition of Parker Van Buskirk; who as a rookie led the Stockton Thunder to the seventh game of the National Conference semi-finals against Las Vegas.
Utah enters their fifth year in the ECHL and their third-straight season as an affiliate of the New York Islanders. Head Coach Kevin Colley returns to the Utah bench this upcoming season after signing a multi-year contract extension on April 20, 2009. Colley, who at the age of 30 is the youngest coach in the ECHL, led the Grizzlies to the playoffs for the third time in four years during his rookie head coaching campaign.
