Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC-The Charlotte Checkers have announced today the release of their 2009-10 regular season schedule. The team, in its 17th season of ECHL play, will skate in 72 regular season games, 29 of which will be against out-of-division opponents.
The Checkers will once again start the season on the road when they embark on a four-game southern swing beginning Oct. 17 in North Charleston, S.C. against the defending Kelly Cup Champion South Carolina Stingrays. They will return to Charlotte for their home opener on Sunday, Nov. 1 against the Gwinnett Gladiators. The game will start at 2 p.m. and will be the first of several "Skate With the Checkers" games where fans will have the opportunity to skate with the players after the game.
Checkers fans will get to see a rematch of last year's playoffs on Dec. 16, Dec. 18 and Dec. 20 when the Stingrays come to Charlotte.
Due to a scheduling format change in the ECHL the Checkers will host all 10 American Conference teams this season including two unfamiliar opponents. New to the ECHL in 2009-10 are the Kalamazoo Wings and Toledo Walleye who will visit Time Warner Cable Arena for two games each. Kalamazoo will make their first ever trip to Charlotte on Nov. 8 while Toledo will play their first of two games on Feb. 7.
Thursday, Feb.18 will be the first ever midnight game in Charlotte. The Checkers will host the Toledo Storm and doors will open at 11pm while puck-drop is scheduled for 11:59pm.
With the exception of the midnight game, and two others to be announced at a later date, game times will be 7 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays.
Training camp opens Oct. 1 with the first pre-season home game scheduled for Oct. 10 at Extreme Ice Center. Tickets are free for season ticket holders and $10 for the general public.
Regular season mini plans start at $40 and season ticket information can be found at www.gocheckers.com or by calling the Checkers' front office at (704) 342-4ICE (4423). The Checkers' promotional calendar, including giveaways and theme nights, will be released shortly.
