Grizzlies Roar Past Cubs

Fresno, CA - The Fresno Grizzlies (35-32) scored seven runs in the first three innings on their way to a 10-1 victory over the Iowa Cubs (33-30) at Chukchansi Park on Wednesday night. The Grizzlies lead this series 2-1 and will end the Cubs' streak of four straight seasons winning the season series against Fresno. The Cubs had won the season series 3-1 in each of the last four seasons.

The Grizzlies jumped on Cubs' starter Chris Rusin early. Adam Duvall launched his league-leading 20th home run of the season, a three-run shot, in the bottom of the first inning. The hit also extended Duvall's league-best hitting streak to 19 games. The Grizzlies added two more runs in the second on a two-run single by Joe Panik, and two in the third in a two-run double by Trevor Brown. Rusin (4-8) came out after three innings for his shortest outing of the season and set a season-high with seven runs allowed.

Jeff Antigua picked up the Cubs with three scoreless innings in relief. Zac Rosscup struck out the side in the seventh. In three appearances on his major league rehab assignment, Rosscup has retired all nine batters he has faced and struck out six. The Grizzlies added their final three runs against Yoanner Negrin in the eighth. Nick Noonan had an RBI double for his fourth hit of the game. Negrin walked three, including Travis Ishikawa with the bases loaded, in his inning of work.

Grizzlies' starter Chris Heston (6-3) allowed one run on six hits in six innings to earn the win. The Cubs' only run came in the top of the second inning. Logan Watkins led off with a double and scored on a base hit by Josh Vitters. Vitters finished with a season-high three hits. Ryan Kalish was the only other Cub to have a multi-hit game. He had two singles and stole two bases.

The Cubs and Grizzlies wrap up this series on Thursday night at 9:05 Central time. The Cubs will send LH Eric Jokisch (5-5, 3.33) to the mound against RH Mitch Lively (3-3, 6.20) for the Grizzlies. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 and streamed live at iowacubs.com with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 8:40 PM.
