Aces Lose Third Straight One-Run Game in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- The Aces dropped their third straight one-run game in a 3-2 loss to the Nashville Sounds Wednesday night at Greer Stadium.

Much like game two of the series, both starters were dominant. Mike Bolsinger struck out a career-high 12 batters for Reno in 6 2/3 innings and Jimmy Nelson allowed just one run on four hits to go along with ten strikeouts for the Sounds. Neither factored in the decision.

Hunter Morris gave Nashville an early lead with a run-scoring double in the first. Nelson retired the first seven batters he faced before a walk came back to hurt him in the third. With one out, Mike Freeman drew a free pass and scored two batters later when Tony Campana lined a single to left to even the game at 1-1.

Meanwhile, Bolsinger retired 11 straight batters before he issued a one-out walk to Kevin Mattison in the fifth. It didn't cost him as he struck out the next two hitters.

It was 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh when Nashville's Sean Halton clubbed a two-out, RBI-single off Bolsinger to put the Sounds on top. Jess Todd relieved Bolsinger and walked two straight before retiring Elian Herrera to end the inning.

Mike Jacobs started the eighth with authority when he drilled a 1-1 pitch from Brent Leach over the right field wall for his 12th home run of the year.

Eury De La Rosa came on to work the eighth in the 2-2 game. He got Pete Orr on a groundout to lead off the inning but Matt Pagnozzi singled, and Caleb Gindl walked.

De La Rosa came back to strike out Mattison for the second out of the inning. He was then lifted in favor of closer Matt Stites. The move didn't work out as Hector Gomez lined a base hit to right, scoring Pagnozzi on a close play at the plate. Aces Manager Phil Nevin was ejected after he argued the call with home plate umpire Marcus Pattillo.

With a 3-2 lead, Nashville turned to Donovan Hand. The closer allowed a two-out single to Danny Dorn but got Jacobs to fly out to center to wrap up the win for the Sounds. The Aces are hitting just .179 (10-for-56) with runners in scoring position over their last six games.

Reno will try to avoid the series sweep in the finale Thursday night. Right-hander Lucas Harrell (3-0, 3.89) gets the ball against right-hander Michael Blazek (0-3, 4.86) for Nashville. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PST.
