Fresno Grizzlies News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Grizzlies (35-32) scored seven runs over the first three innings on way to a 10-1 shellacking of the Iowa Cubs (33-30) Wednesday night in front of 4,157 fans at Chukchansi Park.
Adam Duvall started off the scoring in the first by extending his league-high hitting streak (19 games) with a three-run homer (20) off the scoreboard in left-center field. With the homer, Duvall becomes the first player in Triple-A and the fourth overall in Minor League Baseball to reach the 20 home run mark. Twelve of his 20 home runs have come with runners on base.
Joe Panik (1-5, 2 RBI) carried the scoring momentum into the second with a two-run single that scored Chris Heston and Gary Brown to make it 5-0.
Nick Noonan (4-4, RBI, 2 R), who entered the game in a 1-22 (.045) slump and asked that no walk-up music be played for him, collected his second hit of the night in the third inning and scored on a two-out single by Brett Krill. A batter later, Trevor Brown rocketed a two-run double down the left-field line to put the Grizzlies up 7-1 after three frames.
Noonan went on to record his second four-hit game of the season and the fifth overall by a Grizzly.
Chris Heston (W, 6-3) only allowed one run in 6.0 IP, while striking out three and holding Iowa scoreless over his final four frames. The Cubs saw a prime scoring opportunity in the sixth as they loaded the bases with only one out, but inning-ending double play from the bat of Logan Watkins erased the threat. Heston has limited opponents to one run or less in five starts this season (Fresno is 4-1 in those games).
Dan Runzler (1.0 IP) lowered his ERA to 0.95 by retiring the Cubs in order in the eighth, while also dropping his opponents' average to .172 (17-99).
After going scoreless from the fourth-seventh, the Grizzlies were still hungry for more as they put three more runs across the board in the eighth. Chris Dominguez singled and scored on Noonan's fourth hit of the night, which was a double to right center. Walks to Brett Krill and Trevor Brown load the bases for pinch-hitter Travis Ishikawa, who drew a run-scoring walk. A force out from the bat of Gary Brown plated the 10th and final run for the Grizzlies.
Tonight's game was the 10th time the Grizzlies scored 10 runs in a game this year.
The Iowa Cubs scored their sole run in the second when Logan Watkins doubled and scored on an RBI single by Josh Vitters.
Iowa and Fresno meet in their regular season finale tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. PT at Chukchansi Park. Fresno sends right-hander Mitch Lively (3-3, 6.20) to the mound to face Iowa lefty Eric Jokisch (5-5, 3.33). The night is themed "Bromance Night" and features 2-for-1 Bro Tickets. The theme night is in conjuction with the ever-popular Tecate Thursday ($2 24 oz. Tecate and Tecate Light through fifth inning).
