Omaha Storm Chasers June 12th Game Notes

June 12, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

LAST NIGHT'S WIN: Omaha scored double-digit runs for the first time in nearly a month (May 15 at Memphis being the last) as they took the third game of the series with Sacramento 10- 4. The 10 runs were more than enough for John Lamb, as he allowed only two runs in five innings (has not suffered the loss in seven straight starts after losing his first five to start the season).

ORLANDO ROAD STREAK: Paulo Orlando has hit safely in 34 straight road games, and is the only player in Triple-A Baseball to hit safely in all of his team's road games this season. Only Joe Panik of Fresno at 55 hits has more than Orlando's 47 hits on the road this season. The 34- game streak is the longest road hitting streak since the league began recording streaks in 2009. He owns the best road average on the Storm Chasers at .353 (47-for-133), second most road XBH at 12 (Matt Fields has 13) and second most road RBI at 18 (Carlos Peguero has 21). It is the longest on-base streak in the PCL since Sacramento's Michael Taylor's 36-gamer April 10 - July 17, 2012. Orlando has 79 hits in 63 games this season, only two shy of his 81 hits in 92 games last year.

JOHNNY BE GOOD: Johnny Giavotella's 5 RBI last night were a Triple-A career high in his 342 games with the Storm Chasers (he had only five total RBI in his first 18 games since being sent back down to Omaha on May 23). The 5 RBI also gave Gio 212 RBI in his four years in Omaha, moving him past his former teammate David Lough (209) for 11th place on the Omaha all-time RBI list. Another former teammate Irving Falu ranks 10th with 214 RBI.

WINS AT RALEY FIELD: The Chasers have won multiple games at Raley Field in a season for only the fourth time (2010, 2003 and 2002) but with a win tonight it would be only their second series win at the stadium, the other being in 2010 (3-1). Omaha has at least split seven of their last eight non-conference road series (Colorado Springs May 11-14, 2013 the only loss).

BASE CHASERS: Omaha has four straight games with at least one stolen base, the third time this season they have strung together four straight games with a steal (four straight games to start the 2014 season April 4-6 and seven straight from April 27 to May 4). Omaha leads the league with 63 steals, on pace for 137 steals (their second highest total as far back as 2003, 152 steals in 2011). Omaha has at least 100 steals in each of their four years as the Storm Chasers, after they failed to reach that benchmark in any of the eight seasons from 2003-2010.

NO ROUND-TRIPPERS: Omaha has not allowed a homer in five straight road games, one game in last 11 road games, tying longest road homerless streak of the season (May 27-31 at OKC/RR).

ROAD REVERSAL : The Storm Chasers have the opportunity to move above .500 in road games tonight after starting 1-8 (which was their worst road start since the 2001 season).
