
Grizzlies pound Rascals

The Grizzlies scored four runs in two different innings, hit a pair of home runs, banged out 14 hits, and pounded the River City Rascals 10-2 in front of 6,283 Saturday night at GMC Stadium.
The Grizzlies (38-29) remain one game back of Rockford in the West Division. The Rascals drop to 33-32 on the year.
Tony Coyne led the way offensively for the Grizzlies. He was 2-4 with a three run home run and five RBIs in his first home start since June 4. Greg Stevens was 2-4 with a solo home run. Ryan Sullivan was 2-4 with two RBIs. Todd Oetting was 2-5 an RBI.
Brandon Smith started and picked up the win. Smith (5-5) went six innings giving up two runs on seven hits. He struck out six. Dan Smith pitched two scoreless innings in relief. Ted Rowe finished the game, throwing the ninth allowing two hits, striking out two.
Steve Shilisky (0-1) took the loss for the Rascals. Shilsky went 3 1/3 innings. He gave up four runs on four hits. He struck out two.
Josh Ury hit a solo home run, and Michael Conner added an RBI for the Rascals.
The Grizzlies and Rascals continue the series with a 6:05 game Sunday night at GMC Stadium.
