Matt Schweitzer sets wins record

Richmond, IN - Roosters pitcher Matt Schweitzer pitched himself into the record books on Thursday night as the Roosters defeated the Chillicothe Paints 11-3. Schweitzer picked up his nineteenth career victory by going 6 1/3 innings and allowing three runs and seven hits. Only two of the runs were earned and Schweitzer struck out three along the way. Matt Schweitzer is now the Roosters career leader in wins (19), appearances (167) , and strikeouts (289).

Schweitzer (2-4) got the win while making his first start in three seasons. Schweitzer now has a 19-10 career record. John Martinez (2-3) picked up the loss for the Paints pitching 6 1/3 but giving up seven runs, five earned, off of ten hits. Dustin Kupper made his Richmond debut in relief and Jamie Gonzales finished the night by pitching the ninth inning.

The Roosters jumped out early on Martinez by scoring one run in the first and three more in the third. Drew Miller smashed a three run homer to left field to put the Roosters up 4-0. The lead was extended to 6-0 when Trevor Hall singled to score Mike Silva after Eric Archer was driven in by Silva. The final runs came in the seventh inning on three walks by Chillicothe relievers and a Tony Sanguinetti hit. Chillicothe committed three errors in the game which lead to runs.

The Roosters (28-36) will attempt to win the series finale on Friday night. Tony Casoli (1-0) will start for the Roosters after delivering a complete game shutout on Sunday in Florence. The Paints (30-35) will be playing their final game at McBride Stadium in the 2004 regular season. Friday will be Roosters Rally Towel Night sponsored by VFW Post 1108. Game time is set for 6:35pm.
