
Grizzlies Out-Duel HiToms

THOMASVILLE, N.C. - Gastonia scored runs in the third and sixth inning and Wayland Moore fired 6 2/3 scoreless innings to lift the Grizzlies to a 2-0 win over Thomasville on Monday night at Finch Field.
Gastonia (10-9) scored their run in the third inning on back to back singles from Joe Ramirez and Tyler White. Then, Dallas Burke grounded out to first which allowed the opening run to score.
JJ Jankowski (L, 1-1) gave up his second run to the Grizzlies in the sixth when he walked Justin Vasquez and the runner scored when Dylan Nasiatka reached on an error to make it 2-0 Gastonia.
Thomasville (9-10) had their best scoring chance of the night in the seventh against Moore (W, 3-1) as they put back to back runners on to begin the inning. Patrick Koontz moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt, however, back to back strikeouts ended the threat.
In the ninth, the Tommies brought the tying run to the plate against Derek Epps (S, 8) but Ryan Kinsella bounced out to end the game and give the Grizzlies a 2-0 win.
The HiToms are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Forest City for a 7:30 start, they return to Finch Field on Wednesday night also against Forest City with a scheduled 7:00 first pitch. Wednesday will be another Mighty Dollar Wednesday with hot dogs, 12 ounce beer and fountain drinks on sale for one dollar.
The HiToms are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 15th season in 2011, the CPL features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 900 alumni drafted and 44 alums make their Major League debut thus far.
