Blowfish Split Double Header

June 20, 2011 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Lexington County Blowfish News Release

The Columbia Blowfish and Fayetteville SwampDogs split a double header on Monday. The Blowfish (5-14) took game one over the SwampDogs (10-9), 6-5, in a game that started in Columbia on Saturday. The win snapped an eight game losing streak.

The Blowfish scored five runs in the second en route to a 5-2 lead before the game was halted due to weather in the fourth inning. Austin Pritcher (2-2) got the start after an hour rain delay and pitched all four innings. He allowed two runs on three hits while striking out four.

When the game resumed in Fayetteville on Monday night Chase Vergason kicked off the night with a triple and was immediately driven in by Tyler Jackson.

Cody Davis cut into the lead in the sixth with an RBI single to score Eric Grabe. Two unearned runs came across in the eighth to make it a one-run game, but Scott Robinson was able to get the final four outs to preserve the win and earn his first save of the season.

Fayetteville became the home team for the second game and was able to come away with a 4-1 victory. Two unearned runs in the first put the SwampDogs out of reach early, as the Columbia bats failed to figure out SwampDogs starter Derrick Brooks (4-0), who went the distance in the abbreviated game. Brooks allowed just one run on five hits.

The Blowfish sent Josh Adams (0-3) to the hill in the back end. Defense hurt him early as two unearned runs scored in the first inning. Dylan Brown roped a double to left centerfield to drive in a pair in the fourth and provide some insurance.

That was all Brooks would need. Other than a Ryan Burt RBI infield single in the fourth Brooks was dominant in his third start of the season; it was his second against Columbia.

The Blowfish return home on Tuesday to host the Coastal Plain Division South division leading Florence RedWolves. The SwampDogs remain at J.P. Riddle Stadium to host the Morehead City Marlins.

The Columbia Blowfish are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league.
