Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Colley announced today that Pat Curcio has been named the team's Assistant Coach/Assistant Director of Hockey Operations.

Curcio, 36, joins Utah after spending the previous two seasons with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League. The Knights advanced to the conference finals this past season, before falling to the eventual Memorial Cup Champions in the Windsor Spitfires.

"Bringing Pat onboard continues with the model of our hockey staff," said Colley. "He has experience developing players for the next level in a winning environment and those are our two most important goals here in Utah."

Also this past season, Curcio coached 2009 New York Islanders first overall draft pick John Tavares. He spent the 2006-2007 season as the Head Coach of the OPJHL's Pickering Panthers, leading the team to a 26-21-2 record in the Junior A league. Before entering the coaching ranks, Curcio spent the better part of ten years playing professional hockey in Europe and the United States; including two seasons in the ECHL.

"I'm very excited and grateful for the opportunity given to me by Kevin Colley," said Curcio. "I'm looking forward to the new challenges and helping develop players for the next level."

The Grizzlies open the 2009-2010 season Friday, October 16 in Las Vegas with the home opening E-Center weekend being Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24 when they will host Idaho.

Utah enters their fifth year in the ECHL and their third-straight season as an affiliate of the New York Islanders. Head Coach Kevin Colley returns to the Utah bench this upcoming season after signing a multi-year contract extension on April 20, 2009. Colley, who at the age of 30 is the youngest coach in the ECHL, led the Grizzlies to the playoffs for the third time in four years during his rookie head coaching campaign.
