March 31, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies mathematically clinched an ECHL playoff berth Tuesday night when the Idaho Steelheads defeated the Phoenix RoadRunners 3-2 in Boise in game one of a four-game series. Utah advances to the post-season for the third time in four years since joining the ECHL.
The Grizzlies are the proud affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders and their AHL affiliate in Bridgeport.
The team is next in action Friday and Saturday when they will host the Alaska Aces at the E-Center to complete the regular season. Face-off both evenings is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
It's been another busy campaign on the Utah transaction wire. Since the start of the season, the Grizzlies have had 17 players who have also played in the AHL and three players get called-up to the NHL with both Joel Rechlicz and Peter Mannino making their NHL debuts.
The Grizzlies will either take on the Idaho Steelheads or the Alaska Aces in the first round depending on the following scenarios:
The Grizzlies will play Idaho in the first round if: Utah defeats Alaska in regulation both games this weekend and if Idaho defeats Phoenix in two of their remaining three games this week.
